April 5, 2022California Special Primary Election in U.S. Congressional District 22

The State of California will conduct a special primary election on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, to fill a vacancy for the 22nd Congressional District, which includes parts of Fresno and Tulare counties. Service members, eligible family members, and overseas citizens wishing to vote in this Special Primary Election must register to vote by March 21, 2022.  Voters can use the Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) to register to vote by using the completion tool available at fvap.gov/FPCA or by using the fillable PDF version. If voters are using the FPCA to register to vote, then they must mail or fax the completed, signed form.

California voters who are already registered must request their ballot by March 29, 2022. Registered voters should send a completed and signed FPCA directly to their election office by email, mail, or fax.

Voters must return their voted absentee ballot by MAIL or FAX (fax only if you are overseas or activated within 6 days of the election). Mailed ballots must be postmarked by April 5, 2022 and received by the 7th day after the election. Faxed ballots must be received by 8PM on April 5, 2022. Detailed instructions and county contact information are available at fvap.gov/California.

FVAP offers an email-to-fax forwarding service for voters from states that allow voted ballots to be faxed, but do not allow email return of voted ballots. Voters who do not have access to a fax machine can email their completed ballot to fax@FVAP.gov and FVAP will forward the ballot as a fax to the appropriate election office.

Voters who do not receive their requested state absentee ballot in time to return it by the ballot return deadline can send the Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot (FWAB) to their election office as a backup ballot. If the state absentee ballot arrives after sending in the FWAB, the voter may complete and submit that ballot as well. Only one ballot will be counted.

Voters can verify the status of their voting materials by contacting their election office directly.

The Special General Election to fill this vacancy will be held on June 7, 2022.
