Army Maj. Gen. Garrett Yee, assistant to the director of the Defense Information Systems Agency, is scheduled to retire April 28, closing out a 35-year career.

Since his arrival at DISA, Yee provided critical leadership for the agency’s $13 billion information technology and cybersecurity portfolio and a 19,000 combined military, civilian and contract workforce that provides IT support to the president, secretary of defense, Joint Chiefs of Staff, combatant commanders and DOD components.

As the agency’s customer facing executive and senior procurement executive, Yee has been instrumental in championing persistent senior leader engagement with the services, combatant commands, and industry, resulting in improved trust, adoption and understanding of DISA’s mission, vision and services.

“For me, it always has been and always will be about partnerships,” Yee said. “Whether it’s meeting with mission partners to make sure that we get them exactly what they need or working with industry partners to help deliver our warfighters best value capabilities.”

At the same time, Yee has kept his focus on the workforce. During the pandemic, Yee launched several internal communications initiatives to keep the DISA global-wide force informed of critical missions, successes and helped provide a sense of community. His monthly virtual lunch-and-learn series, “DISA in the Know,” has become one of the most popular platforms with an average of more than 1,000 participants per episode.
